Kathryn Ward is a Technical Director of Power Systems Engineering for Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner Limited in Christchurch, New Zealand. Her role includes providing specialist conceptual and design engineering services in the area of control, protection, load flow modelling, metering and instrumentation. Kathryn has over 30 years of experience in the High Voltage electrical industry in New Zealand. She graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering degree with Honours from the Canterbury University and spent over 11 years working for New Zealand Electricity before it was corporatised in 1986. Kathryn was a Consultant Protection Engineer for Design Power for over 10 years before joining Beca in 1998. Kathryn has held numerous positions in technical design engineering and project management for various power utilities in the transmission, generation and distribution markets. Kathryn is a Chartered Professional Engineer and a Member of IPENZ. Training junior and intermediate engineers at Beca is another aspect Kathryn enjoys. Kathryn has been a Guest Lecturer at the University of Canterbury Electrical Engineering School in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012 teaching third professional year students on Power System Protection.
