LOCAL STUDENT/GOLD/WIE REGISTRATION

The local organising committee would like to invite young  engineers in the power industry and students interested in this field across New Zealand to register their interest in attending the Young Engineer’s program (here after referred to as Student/GOLD/WIE) at an Asia-Pacific’s premier Power Systems Technology Conference in Auckland next month.

PowerCon 2012 – the biggest power systems conference in the Asia Pacific region is about to hit New Zealand this year!! Meet some of New Zealand’s leading energy CEO’s, rub shoulders with experts in the global power industry and chat with industry professionals all under one roof and for one low price!!

The conference will be held from 30th October to 2nd November 2012 at Pullman Hotel, Auckland City. It will unite about 400 attendees from across the world and provide a forum for global leaders, international dignitaries, industry experts, academic researchers and power engineering professionals to exchange up-to-date knowledge, experiences and views on key areas of electric power engineering practices and power system technologies implemented around the world.  The theme for this year isTowards Smarter Resilient and Economic Power Systems– very topical in the context of emerging trends of Smart Grids; resilience of electricity infrastructure to recent earthquakes, floods, nuclear- meltdown in the Asia-Pacific region; and, trends towards Emission Trading Schemes and increased participation of private capital markets into electricity generation.

The event will be very similar to the Electricity Engineers Association (EEA) Annual Conference but a larger international audience. It is intended to unite all the power related industry organisations in New Zealand with the local organising committee made up of representatives from all the three PES Chapters from NZ (North, Central and South), four Universities (Auckland University, AUT, Canterbury University and Victoria), EEA and CIGRE-NZ.

The conference program will consist of plenary sessions and technical tracks on a wide range of topics covering the conference theme, tutorials by some of the world’s best instructors, a trade exhibition, a partner’s programme, social and networking events and a Student/GOLD/WIE program for the next generation engineers. This invitation is focussed on the Student/GOLD/WIE interactive program which consists of poster sessions, breakfast with the CEO’s, the delegates forum, industry talks, panel discussions on topical issues relevant to young engineers and networking opportunities to get to know other Student/GOLD/WIE engineers attending the conference. Please refer to the Student /GOLD/WIE program for further details, including the list of confirmed speakers for the program. The program will run from 5 pm on 31st October to 6pm on 1st November 2012.

The cost for attending the Student/GOLD/WIE program is NZ$130+GST for IEEE members and NZ$150+GST for non-IEEE members.

The registration procedure involves filling in the PowerCon 2012 Student-GOLD-WIE Registration Form V2’ and emailing it to powercon2012.nz@gmail.com. The registration would include a name tag, a conference pack, lunches, morning and afternoon teas for the program, access to all Student/WIE/GOLD sessions and trade shows. Self funded applicants are encouraged to get intouch with the Student/GOLD/WIE Committee via the above email address consideration of funding support if required.

Prospective delegates are welcome to attend other sessions under the technical program but would need to register their interest directly via the website and pay separately for the full conference or a ‘day package’ www.powercon2012.com/registration.

The Student/GOLD/WIE registration fee does NOT include access to the other technical sessions of the program.

However if you are a Student/GOLD member paying full price, then you are allowed to attend the GOLD/WIE program.
